Meet the Team
David Leviston - Managing Director
David Leviston started playing the flute when he was 7. Upon finishing school David began studies in Law but quickly changed to Music after successfully auditioning for a professional orchestral position. Being the fortunate recipient of an Australia Council grant, David spent 1975/1976 studying with many leading teachers in the UK, Europe and USA. David David has worked for many years as orchestral, solo and chamber music performer, and taught both in institutions and privately for most of his playing career. He has also examined at all levels for the AMEB. His passion for the flute led him to begin Flutes and Flutist and the Australian Flute Festival.
Lyndie Leviston - Australian Flute Festival
Lyndie studied for her B.Mus (Perf) degree, on flute, under the guidance of Swiss flutist, Beat Wenger. Lyndie played with the Cape Town Symphony Orchestra and was a member of the Viva Musica Quartet, performing regularly around South Africa. After immigrating to New Zealand, she was invited to play First and Second Flute in the Auckland Symphony Orchestra, and formed a flute/piano duo called Tui's Company. Since moving to Australia in 2006, Lyndie has directed and coordinated the Australian Flute Festival as well as facilitating recitals and masterclasses for many Australian and International flutists.
Angus McEwan - Flute Technician
Angus has been playing the flute for 35 years and spent 15 years teaching and playing professionally. He has been been a full time flute technician since 1999 and started working for Flutes and Flutists and Flute Fidelity in 1998. He spent 2 years living in the United States where he studied and worked with some of the best flutemakers and technicians in the world. He also spent time training at the Burkart factory in Boston. Since returning from the United States, Angus has done repair work for most of the players in the symphony orchestras in Australasia and for visiting international artists such as Emily Beynon, Michael Cox and Denis Bouriakov. Angus is an authorised Straubinger technician.
Edison Castilho Junior - Flute Technician
Edison is a renowned Brazilian Woodwind Repair Technician specializing in in top-end flutes and Straubinger padding techniques. He has attended several international courses on advanced tuning, gold, silver and bronze welding, lathe operation, wood restoration techniques and the development of new manufactured woodwind instrument parts. With more than 14 years experience from Latin America, New Zealand and now Australia, Edison has worked alongside musicians from the Argentina National Orchestra, Buenos Aires Philharmonic Orchestra, New Zealand Symphony Orchestra, Auckland Philharmonia Orchestra, Christchurch Symphony Orchestra, and numerous prominent jazz musicians.
Joseph Derrick - Flute Technician
Joseph Derrick graduated from the Sydney Conservatorium in 2004 with B. Mus in Performance Jazz (trumpet). He then worked for 2 years teaching and playing professionally in Sydney and spent one year in the U.S.A. gaining a Diploma in Band Instrument Repair (brass and woodwind) from Southeast Technical at Minnesota State College graduating with top marks in 2007. He is now the skilled and trusted repairer for many professional players, schools and the Australian Army and has been working alongside Angus McEwan since 2007. He continues to perform, working with different groups in a variety of genres. Please contact Joseph for all brass and woodwind repairs.
Kinsey Alexander - Repair Admin and Sales
Since commencing lessons with Kellie Grennan at the age of 6, Kinsey went on to study flute with Dr Alexa Still at the Sydney Conservatorium High School, during which time she passed her HSC music extension course with full marks. Kinsey received a full scholarship to the Sydney Conservatorium of Music where she studied under James Kortum, Aldo Baertan and Alison Mitchell. Kinsey performed in the Sydney Youth Orchestra’s Flagship orchestra in 2014 and as principal flute in 2015 when she was also principal flute in the Sydney Conservatorium of Music Symphony Orchestra. Kinsey graduated from the Sydney Conservatorium of Music in 2015 with a Bachelor of Music Performance in Flute and hopes to continue her studies overseas.
